When I moved into my house 10 years ago there was this big ol’ dead cherry tree in the back yard. Just standing there dead and huge. I had it cut down and asked the tree cutting service if I could keep the wood. I wasn’t into wood working at all at the time, I just had this thing in the back of my brain that said “Hey, wood is neat. You should keep this stuff.”

And here, a decade later, is one of those logs in vase form! I was correct to ask them to keep that wood.
